MP: Speed up probe on robbery-cum-murder

TAWAU: Member of Parliament Datuk Chua SoonBui urged the police to expedite investigations into Saturday's robbery-cum-murder case in Kalabakan.

Chua expressed worry that the perpetrators may spring on others.

Expressing shock over the vicious attack on Sang Sui Fong who was found dead with multiple stab wounds near her car, Chua condemned the heartless and senseless act.

She also expressed her sympathy and condolence to the family of Sang and promised to assist in whatever way she could.

According to her, "fear of crimes" has been a nightmare to all the families especially for women and children who are more vulnerable to crimes.

"It is therefore important that the public be on alert by taking constant precautions ... notifying your family members when one is travelling alone and keeping emergency contacts to police and other authorities are some of the measures that must be taken," she said.

 

Chua who is also a Vice President of Sabah Progressive Party ( SAPP) said that the society was getting more complicated especially with 41 per cent of the Tawau population being illegal immigrants, which has been a concern for the community.

"We can't take our safety and security for granted and must be alert when unusual incidents happen," she said.

She said it was therefore important for the government to set up the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants to minimise major threats to society.

It was reported that Sang was found near her car, which had apparently skidded off the road at the Km 39 of the Kalabakan-Keningau Road at about 8am.

A motorist spotted her body and vehicle. Tawau police chief ACP Ibrahim Chin had said that police have classified the case as robbery-cum-murder.
