TAWAU: Member of parliament Datuk Chua Soon Bui has urged the Land and Survey Department to upgrade its system and bring those in cahoots with frauds to justice.
"It is unbelievable that the department could overlook and make such mistakes with land titles," she said yesterday and advised land owners to check their land status, especially those with idle lands.
She was commenting on the claim by Abdul Wahab Timbasal that a land title under the name of his mother who Passed away about 12 Years ago, had been elaimed by her in 2008 at the Land and Survey Department office here and the discovery by Yong Den Fah that 19.25 acres of Commercial Lease land he bought in 1999 had been issued under Native Title this year.
Chua questioned the department on its records of all land titles issued in the state as the recent raised issues put land owners' confidence with the department at a very low level.
'I suggest the department open an online website so people can check their land status online and those applying for land too can check on the progress," she said.
She added the People wanted to see severe action taken if there were any malpractices by any of its officers.
"The Land and Survey Department has to be responsible for causing anxiety and need to gain back people's confidence," she said.
