Yong’s twin son carries on a party tradition…

SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) Luyang Central Liaison Committee (CLC) is all set for the Foh Sang Chinese New Year (or Spring Festival) celebration at the shoplots' open space this Saturday (Feb 4).

Organising Chairman Yong Yit Yoong said the event will begin at 6.30pm, and an interesting programme has been drawn up to mark the auspicious occasion.

He said the party has perpetuated the tradition of festivities since its formation in 1994.

"Even after Sapp left Barisan Nasional (BN), we have continued to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year festival, especially in an inter-racial setting.

“We believe events like this can harmonise the various races," he told a press conference.

Yong, a twin son of former Chief Minister, Datuk Yong Teck Lee, said the crowd will be entertained by lion dance troupes and cultural dancers, among other performers.

"We are also promoting local talents like Yu Tian Long dubbed King of Hakka songs, who will serenade the people with a repertoire of new Hakka numbers."

Also a composer, Yu, 35, has won a string of accolades like Top Ten World Hakka Pop Music (Meizhou, China, 2011); PWH Malaysian Music Award (2010); and Independent Music Production Award (KL, 2010).

Saying the area will be closed to traffic from 3pm onwards, he said the organising committee is sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Luyang Assemblywoman Melanie Chia Chui Ket, who was present, said although Sapp has been out of government for three years, it has undertaken to gaily decorate the Taman Foh Sang area to enliven the environment.

“We have been doing that every year since 1994 without fail. The economy may not be vibrant but Chinese New Year is a time of high expectations and aspirations.

“So we want to create a joyous atmosphere for people to get the feel of the Spring Festival, especially in the Foh Sang satellite township," she said.- MC
