Political parties now have to deal directly with ROS HQ

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) expressed its regret now that the Registrar of Societies in Sabah would no longer handle matters related to political parties in the state effective June 1 this year.

SAPP assistant secretary Dato' Shuaib Dato’ Hj Mutalib, who received a letter to that effect from the assistant registrar, described the decision as a step backward which is burdening Sabahans.

He also expressed hope that the registrar would carry out a detailed research and investigation to weigh the pros and cons of such a decision.

Shuaib said political parties in Sabah would now be required to deal with all matters pertaining to and including applications to amend the constitution and regulations, applications to set up new branches and the presentation of their annual statement of accounts directly to the department's headquarters in Putrajaya.

He pointed out that in the department s branch in the state had hitherto rendered efficient service to all parties in the state and all matters had been settled expeditiously.

Shuaib added that with the new ruling, political parties in Sabah would now have to bear with rising cost in expenses when dealing with the department.
