SAPP happy people still with party

KOTA KINABALU: Despite a drizzle, thousands of people of all ages thronged the annual Mooncake Festival celebration organised by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) at the vicinity of Taman Foh Sang shops here on Sunday.

Armed with umbrellas they sat through the entire program which started at 6.30pm and ended at 9.30pm.

The audience were entertained by a host of interesting stage performances by local artistes an talents including Sabah Hakka pop idol Yu Tian Long and Sabah award winning young magician Yvonne Wong Yee Wen.

There was also an exhibition of a wide range of colourful lanterns made by participants of its lantern making contest.

Luyang assemblywoman Melani Chia who is also the main organising chairperson, was apparently moved by the scene describing it is a testimony of the people’s continuous support to the party, despite the fact that it had withdrawn from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition on September 16, 2011.

“We in SAPP are indeed moved to see such a good turnout tonight despite the wet weather. We are really glad that the people are still with us, rain or shine, despite the fact thet we are now in the opposition. This is certainly a great motivation for us to continue with our struggle for the people,” she said.

She further noted thet the party had been organising such an event without fail every year since 1994, as part of its efforts to preserve and promote the Chinese culture and tradition ehich is now an indelible part of Malaysia’s unique multy-ricial and cultural set up.

The event was officiated by SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee in the presence of his wife Datin Stella and a group of Supreme Council members, including deputy presidents Datuk Eric Majimbun and Datuk Liew Teck Chan, secretary general Datuk Richard Yong, treasurer general Datuk Wong Yit Ming, vice pressiden Don Chin and Dullie Marie, former deputy president Datuk Philip Yong, information chief Chong Fit Fah, and its advisor, Datuk Paul Wong.
