Tg Aru beach scare for two East Europeans

KOTA KINABALU: Polish tourist Olivia Kakubowska experienced the fright of her life while taking a stroll down the Third Beach, TanjungAru, Friday afternoon.

She said all of a sudden, she found a man touching her leg and trying to push her into a nearby bush. Frightened, she broke free and fled in terror as fast as she could.

Datuk Richard Yong, SAPP Secretary General, said it so happened that he and two other members of SAPP Tanjung Aru branch committee members, Bahari Aship and Kassim Busok, had gone to Tanjung Aru beach to check the beach condition.

"All of a sudden, a terrified European girl racing down the beach alerted our attention," Yong recalled.

"Olivia then related her narrow escape to us," Yong said.

"Olivia told us she actually went to TanjungAru beach for a stroll with a Slovak girl, Michaela Uradnikova. She continued to walk to the Third Beach alone after Michaela decided to rest at the second Beach, when the man sudden appeared along side."

They said they liked Tanjung Aru for its fine sandy beach compared to beachel in many other places which are riddled with rough and sharp pebbles."

"The incident raises analarm bell on how safe Tanjung Aru beach is for both local and women tourists, from rouge predators like this," Yong said.

“Both girls told us a nice beach like Tanjung Aru is a great attraction if it were clean and safe," Yong claimed.

"There is a tower at the Second Beach but there are no life guards," Yong said.

"An incident like this serve notices there is a safety issue to reckon with, in our touristic spots especiaily in view of what happened to a French girl in an island in Peninsulai Malaysia recently," Yong said.
