SAPP fully supports Anwar as next PM

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) fully supports Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the next prime minister following his acquittal of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday.

“SAPP has a good relationship with PR. The top leaders as well as local leaders in Sabah have always been in constant contact while at the federal level, our two MPs have been discussing how to make our relationship effective to topple the BN government in Sabah," said SAPP deputy president Hj Amdee Sidik in a statement yesterday.

According to Amdee, Anwar himself had made it clear sometime ago that there is no issue with SAPP being not under the Pakatan fold as our enemy is BN, in particular Umno.

On the High Court verdict on Anwar yesterday, he said it signified positive improvement whereby not judges could be bought and controlled by those in power.

"It also shows the government is losing integrity of poor judgment when this case shouldn't even be brought to the High Court in the first place."

Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party would increase its efforts to make Malaysia a better country for all Malaysians.

“Alhamdulillah, my husband has been vindicated from trumped up charges but since it is political in the first place, we are not out of the wilderness yet.

"But we savour the moment of freedom and happiness and will increase our efforts for a better Malaysia," said the mother of six via a text message to The Borneo Post.

Sabah PKR chief Ahmad Thamrin Jaini said since 2008, Anwar had been attacked by statements that did not make sense; at last justice prevailed.

"This is not justice to Anwar alone but all those who care for freedom, justice and the rule of law.

SAPP again says won’t join Pakatan

TAWAU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) reiterated Monday its stand of not joining fellow opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) but will continue co-operating with the latter as a colleague.

Its advisor, Datuk Mohd Noor Mansur, said he is only repeating what party President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee had said previously - that SAPP and PR can be friends but need not be married.

"We must remember that such situation had happened before during the Berjaya era when Usno and PBS united and defeated the Berjaya Government at that time,” he said, in conjunction with the "SAPP Jelajah” programme to strengthen party machinery.

He said the discussion between SAPP and PR to fight the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next election is still being discussed.

However, he said this depended on the sincerity of PR component parties because the SAPP would not let itself be used by certain quarters just because of its status as a local opposition party.

Treasurer-General Dullie Marie, on the other hand, said the party is only interested to wrest the state from the Barisan and, thus, willing to pave the way for PR to contest parliamentary seats in Sabah.

The party has identified 40 out of 60 state seats it would be contesting but that it is still waiting for the outcome of the discussion with the PR.

SAPP is not greedy on the issue of seat determination...so long as Sabah autonomy rights are not affected, we are willing to provide room for other parties to discuss with us," he said.

Nevertheless, SAPP hoped to contest the seats one-to-one with the BN, he said, to ensure victory for the opposition.

He said there is positive development in the matter even though some of the statements issued by leaders in the PR have hurt the feelings of SAPP leadership.

SAPP ulangi pendirian tidak akan sertai PR

TAWAU: Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP) pada Isnin mengulangi pendiriannya untuk tidak menyertai Pakatan Rakyat (PR) tetapi akan terus bekerjasama dengannya sebagai rakan.

Penasihatnya, Datuk Mohd Noor Mansur berkata, beliau hanya mengulangi apa yang Presiden Parti, Datuk Yong Teck Lee telah katakan sebelum ini bahawa SAPP dan PR boleh menjadi rakan tetapi tidak semestinya berkahwin.

"Kita harus ingat bahawa situasi seperti itu pernah berlaku semasa era Berjaya apabila Usno dan PBS bersatu dan berhasil menumbangkan kerajaan Berjaya ketika itu," katanya di sini sempena program “SAPP Jelajah" untuk memperkukuhkan jentera parti itu.

Katanya, perbincangan antara SAPP dan PR untuk menentang Barisan Nasional (BN) pada pilihan raya akan datang masih dibincangkan.

Bagaimanapun, katanya, ini bergantung kepada kejujuran parti-parti komponen PR kerana SAPP tidak akan membiarkan dirinya diperalatkan oleh pihak-pihak tertentu hanya kerana statusnya sebagai sebuah parti pembangkang tempatan.

Bendahari Agung Dullie Marie pula berkata, parti itu hanya berminat untuk merampas negeri ini daripada Barisan maka bersedia untuk memberi laluan kepada PR untuk bertanding kerusi parlimen di Sabah.

Parti itu, katanya, telah mengenal pasti 40 daripada 60 kerusi negeri yang akan ditandinginya tetapi masih menunggu hasil perbincangan dengan PR.

"SAPP tidak tidak tamak dalam isu menentukan kerusi pada pilihanraya akan datang...asalkan sahaja hak autonomi Sabah tidak terjejas, kami bersedia untuk memberi ruang kepada parti lain untuk berbincang dengan kami," katanya.

Bagaimanapun, SAPP berharap dapat bertanding satu lawan satu dengan BN, katanya.

Ini adalah untuk memastikan kemenangan bagi pembangkang, katanya.

Beliau berkata, terdapat perkembangan positif dalam perkara itu walaupun sesetengah kenyataan yang dikeluarkan pemimpin dalam PR telah mengguris perasaan kepimpinan SAPP.
