KDM Malaysia won’t achieve anything: Yong

PENAMPANG: Sabah Progressive Party does not believe the newly-formed KDM Malaysia will be able to help solve the land-related problems or issues faced by most of the Kadazandusun and Murut communities in the State.

Its President Datuk Yong Teck Lee said to him KDM Malaysia is an Umno-linked association and would not be able to solve these because they are part of the problem.

SAPP: Why only KDM Malaysia getting privilege?

Mail Mathew

KOTA KINABATU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) questioned the motive behind the formation of the Kadazandusun Murut Association Malaysia (KDM Malaysia) because it could cause confusion among the people, especially among the KDM communities.

Its vice president, Jimmy Jawatah said this is because despite KDM Malaysia President Datuk John Ambrose's statement that the organisation is a non-governmental organisation (NGO), it will strive to entice its members to joinUmno.

He said some of the members have already joined political parlies of their choice before applying to become members of KDM Malaysia.

Despite the status of the organisation, he said its intention and "sincerity" raises doubt among several quarters, especially from among the KDM communities, because it functions more like a political parly with an inclination towards Umno.

"We are not against anyone forming an organisation because it is allowed under the Constitution.

"However, it must avoid an overlapping of goals because we are aware there are many associations with a KDM concept in the State but with the same purpose," he said.

Jawatah feared this would create competition among the associations to entice membership.

Another statement he took issue with concerns KDM Malaysia aiming to assist KDM communities in rural areas to obtain the PPRT housing so as to help the Barisan Nasional win in the next general election.

" If KDM Malaysia is allowed by the government to do this, why have existing associations such as KDCA" USDA and Sabah Murut Association (PMS) which have similar objectives as KDM Malaysia not been given this privilege?" he asked.

In this respect, he said it is better if KDM Malaysia were registered as a political party.
