TAWAU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) supported the march organised by 15 women non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in conjunction with the International Women's Day calling for a clean and just election in the forthcoming 13th General Election, the installation of a corrupt-free government, the introduction of fair wages, the adoption of good quality of life, the cessation of abuse against women and the abolishment of the Peaceful Assembly Act.
Party members, including the mernber of parliament for Tawau, Datuk Chua Soon Bui, former SAPP supreme councillor Benny Low and a group of SAPP members and supporters in Kuala Lumpur, took part in the 'Wanita Suara Perubahan' march held at the Taman Tasik Petaling Jaya, on March 18.
In calling for a clean, fair and just election, Chua said that SAPP had been fighting for fairness and had questioned the abnormal increise in the population of Sabah due to illegal immigrants.
"The 15 women NGOs should be praised for braving challenges and objections and for taking the voices and actions of women to the streets of Malaysia for the betterment of women and the nation," Chua said.
"It was a breakthrough for women in our society, and the presence of parliamentarians from the opposition parties justified their action for the right cause for the future generations to come," she said.
Chua said she was happy to meet women from the ‘Orang Asli' community who also joined the march to protest against the land grabs and vowed to protect their rights.
She expressed sympathy for their grouses which are similar to the erosion of Native Customary Rights facing the natives in Sabah.
She said the support of about 5,000 participants and supported by the men, was seen as a good siga reflecting the maturity and readiness for a gender equal partnership on the path towards achieving the status of a truly developed nation.
