SAPP denies forming pact with STAR

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has denied that they are forming a pact with the newly-launched State Reform Party (STAR) for the next general election.

SAPP deputy president Made Sidik yesterday said the party had not formed any alliance with STAR and no agreement or negotiation had taken place on the matter.

"Reports in the last two days saying that I had led the arrangement and negotiation on behalf of SAPP with STAR are not true," he said in a statement.

He explained that his presence at the launching of STAR last week was “a gesture of support for its leader Jeffrey Kitingan" and should not be construed as a formal pact with the party.

“SAPP is the only opposition party in the state to have been making serious preparations to face the general election.... SAPP is a friend to all opposition parties who share a common objective," he said.

In the statement, Amde also said that SAPP was in full support for opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar lbrahim as its candidate for prime minister should the opposition PKR-DAP-PAS pact come to power in the next general election.
