KOTA KINABALU: Many employers who came to register their legal workers under the Legal Foreign Workers’ Registration Biometric programme (Pasah) were frustrated when no immigration of officials were present at the Penampang Sigar Hall inTuavon where the exercise was being held last Wednesday.
Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said State Immigration Director, Muhammad Mentek, had given an  assurance that the registration station will also be open even during public holidays.
Its Informition Chief Chong Pit Fah, said he received many complaints from frustrated employers about the matter when they came to register their workers during the Deepavali public holiday.
"They saw the report in the Daily Express where the Immigration Director said the Immigration Department would be using the centre Tuavon Penampang for employers to register their legal workers until end of this month, including on public holidays.
“But they went home frustrated as they were not able to do anything at the centre. They only realised about it when seeing the small piece of paper on the notice board that registration (on Wednesday, Oct 26) would only be done at the Immigation offices," he said.
He said the employers only saw the notice on the notice board after waiting there for quite sometime. Chong said the department should put up a larger notice so that the people could see it and go home instead of having to wait there unnecessarily.
The State Immigration Director was reported as saying that about 25 per cent of the 237,338 legal foreign workers in Sabah had been registered by their employers for the Pasah.
He said employear  in Sabah have until end of this month to do so It is for this reason, Muhammad said, that apart from Immigration offices in several districts, a few centres such as in Tuavon would also be among venues for the registration drive.
