Political will needed to solve Kampung Sembulan rubbish problem-SAPP

KOTA KINABALU: The description given by mayor on the rubbish situation in Kampung Sembulan sound so helpless that the remedial measures offered dose not offer any hope to the residents in the area.

Over the past years, mayor after mayor visited the area, observed the same problems and offered their views and solutions unfortunately all proven to be only lip service and stunt.

All the mayors together with the state assemblyman of the constituency pointed fingers at the residents for the garbage problems.

SAPP Sembulan Selatan Branch chairman Kasim Busok stated this in a statement yesterday.

“As a resident of the area, I am very disappointed with the way the mayor and the three-term YB Datuk Edward liken the problem to be a patient under intensive care without slightest realization the responsibilities of the relevant authorities over the conditions of living, the broken bridges and the sosial problems in the area,” he said.

“Yes, the situation has become very desperate and serious, and the residents and land owners are the ones suffering health hazard due to poor hygiene, depreciation of values of their properties, the foreigners posing security and social problems.

“I am also most disappointed that we have a YB who has been elected for three terms and holding a ministerial position in the Ministry of Local Government and Housing had left the problems unresolved for all these years under his nose. There are still tons of other problems in the whole Tanjung Aru area. His recent visits to the area only reminds us that general election is near, otherwise we hardly have the opportunity to see him.

“We don’t see any hope for these situations to improve unless the state government has got enough political will and come out with a holistic approach which they had not have any over the last many years,” Kasim added.

  1. This is not a question of political will. DBKK has ceaselessly address this problem many times over.

The villagers need to transform themselves and their perceptions about cleanliness.

    1. Setuju. Harap usaha ini tidak sia-sia. Sebolehnya janganlah ia dikaitkan dengan politik.

  2. The habit of throwing rubbish outside the window or directly into the sea without thinking twice should be discarded. The filth can be easily be spotted and this is enough to give a lasting negative image of the city and Sabah in general.

  3. Trash has remained a plague in Kampung Sembulan has manage to cactch the attention of the Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir himself.

  4. According to Abidin, Kg Sembulan was selected to become the first 5K (cleanliness, beautification, security, orderliness and harmony) initiative village due to its negative reputation in terms of cleanliness.

  5. Abidin said while there was a long way to go before the perennial problem could be overcome at the part water village, the situation could only start to change if cleanliness started in the home.

  6. Abidin said the fact that Kampung Sembulan was so near to the city also made it more crucial for the village to be clean, with a host of hotels and resorts located within its vicinity.

  7. Abidin, however, believed that through further awareness drives and a proper system, villagers who are used to littering will learn to change their ways.

  12. Bagaimanapun, dengan usaha berterusan dan bantuan daripada media tak mustahil budaya membuang sampah di merata-rata tempat dapat diatasi.

  13. So what is SAPP propose to solve this issue???

  14. The residents should definitely be blamed too. Even with the solution given, this issue will still remain an issue if the residents refuse to cooperate.
