SAPP fully supports Anwar as next PM

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) fully supports Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the next prime minister following his acquittal of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday.

“SAPP has a good relationship with PR. The top leaders as well as local leaders in Sabah have always been in constant contact while at the federal level, our two MPs have been discussing how to make our relationship effective to topple the BN government in Sabah," said SAPP deputy president Hj Amdee Sidik in a statement yesterday.

According to Amdee, Anwar himself had made it clear sometime ago that there is no issue with SAPP being not under the Pakatan fold as our enemy is BN, in particular Umno.

On the High Court verdict on Anwar yesterday, he said it signified positive improvement whereby not judges could be bought and controlled by those in power.

"It also shows the government is losing integrity of poor judgment when this case shouldn't even be brought to the High Court in the first place."

Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party would increase its efforts to make Malaysia a better country for all Malaysians.

“Alhamdulillah, my husband has been vindicated from trumped up charges but since it is political in the first place, we are not out of the wilderness yet.

"But we savour the moment of freedom and happiness and will increase our efforts for a better Malaysia," said the mother of six via a text message to The Borneo Post.

Sabah PKR chief Ahmad Thamrin Jaini said since 2008, Anwar had been attacked by statements that did not make sense; at last justice prevailed.

"This is not justice to Anwar alone but all those who care for freedom, justice and the rule of law.

“Anwar has been a victim of a malicious conspiracy. The verdict is therefore a clear vindication for Anwar," he said.

PKR Penampang and Kota Kinabalu Divisions were also happy with the decision by the High Court to discharge and acquit Anwar.

Penampang PKR chief Darell Leiking said the party's Penampang members were happy with the decision and would be waiting for the next move by the authorities.

"It is sad that they proceeded with the charges against Anwar despite the circumstances surrounding the allegations to which we still believe to be trumped up.

"The acquittal however does not mean that the judiciary is not tainted. We need to reform and establish appropriate reforms when Pakatan Rakyat takes over Putrajaya and parliament,” he said to The Borneo Post.

PKR Kota Kinabalu chief Christina Liew said the decision was a non-starter in the first place.
"Black is black and white is white. I am happy that justice finally prevails,” she said in a text message.

PKR Supreme Council member Dr Roland Chia said the decision to acquit Anwar would boost PR's plans to take over Putrajaya.

He said the result proves that the sodomy charge was flawed and the entire exercise was a political setup to stop Anwar from contesting and leading the opposition in the general election.

The only way to reform the judiciary is for Pakatan Rakyat to take over the federal government by winning the general election, he said.
