KDM Malaysia won’t achieve anything: Yong

Larry Ralon

PENAMPANG: Sabah Progressive Party does not believe the newly-formed KDM Malaysia will be able to help solve the land-related problems or issues faced by most of the Kadazandusun and Murut communities in the State.

Its President Datuk Yong Teck Lee said to him KDM Malaysia is an Umno-linked association and would not be able to solve these because they are part of the problem.

"Umno leaders are part of the problem of the land issues today. KDM Malaysia is an Umno upshot, from Umno Penampang division. So for them to say they will solve the land issues it does not hold water," he said.

Yong, while presenting his speech earlier, also showed a file containing 824 land-related (problem) cases in 24 districts of the State, including the latest which just took place in Sukau early this month, involving some 43 villagers of the Orang Sungai ethnic community whose homes have been demolished, to make way for a company to develop the land.

He also said that he is confident that the land problems in Sabah can be solved not through Communal Titles but issuance of Native Titles, as evident by the solving of 48,000 land cases and issuance of NT titles for these within a two year period during his time as Chief Minister.

KDM Malaysia was formed on the advice of the Prime Minister as mentioned by its President DatukJohn Ambrose, who is also Penampang Umno division chief.

It is applying to join BN as an affiliate member, which would be like the United Sabah Bajau Organisation. So far KDM Malaysia claims to have 20,000 members and is targeting to have 50,000 by year end.

The United Borneo Front (UBF) President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan was recently reported as saying that KDM Malaysia is just another divide and rule attempt by the Barisan Nasional (BN), while PBS Information Chief Datuk Johnny Mositun denounced the move by Penampang Umno Division, worrying it is some kind of an Umno recruiting agent.
