PR not giving up on SAPP to join pact-DAP Sabah

PENAMPANG: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Sabah is still not giving up on Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) to join the coalition in order to contest against Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming 13th general election.

"Our offer to SAPP and other opposition to join PR to topple Barisan Nasional still stands because this is the Slatform that is solid," Sabah DAP liaison chairman Jimrny Wong said when speaking to reporters here yesterday.

He said that as far as PR is concerned, there is a joint invitation to SAPP to join the coalition but until today, PR had not been officially informed of SAPP's decision.

“We have only received news from the newspaper that they (SAPP) rejected the offer. They do not want to join, they are only asking for 'plus', (but)that is not our offer. We (SabahDAP) have doubt on the 'plus' condition because today you may say you are with us, midnight you may say 'minus'.

"We have to ask the other opposition parties to understand our fear that we want to really have a serious commitment from SAPP that the relationship with other opposition parties in Sahah will be a lasting one," Jimmy stressed, adding that SAPP is not part and parcel of PR and that 'plus' commitment is not strong enough.

When asked to comment on Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor and PR chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's opinion that a 'PR-Plus' system is workable, Jimmy replied, "we respect Anwar's comment but he is still subject to PR Sabah to approve the decision.

"We in PR Sabah have yet to discuss the issue because we have to settle our negotiations on seats allocation first and this will be done as soon as possible," he said.

He reiterated that SAPP's bond of that political commitment must be sincere, because not only DAP has doubts on the sincerity, its feelings is shared by other components in PR.

"Can the relationship last? That is what is bothering us. They (SAPP) never gave us assurance how long the relationship will last ... its must be a sink or swim, do or die relationship,” he stressed.

"So we keep that offer KIV because we want to put our own house in order first. Our negotiations within Sabah PR is cordially going on and we should be able to complete everything very soon.

"Our offer to SAPP and other opposition to join PR to topple Barisan Nasional still stands," he said.

Meanwhile, Jimmy yesterday stated Sabah DAP's intention to contest in the Penampang as well as Moyog constituencies in the coming election.

DAP he pointed out, is a multi-racial party which is striving to address the problems in the state therefore it would augur well if the party has elected representatives in native areas.

Jimmy also disclosed that the DAP Sabah convention is scheduled to be held on October 23 at the Bundusan Place.
