KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Deputy President Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin has rejected the Federation of Hainan Associations of Sabah and Labuan's (FHASL) invitation to visit the Mazu (Goddess of the Sea) Temple in China.
"I would like to thank association's President John Lim, but I think that (the invitation) is unnecessary," he said here Tuesday.
Chin was commenting on Lim's recent statement in the local dailies inviting him to join the FHASL's visit to the Mazu Tample in China.
Lim said FHASL would be making a follow up trip to China soon and invited Chin to join them so that the latter would be able to learn and understand the Mazu culture in China.
Instead, Chin suggested that Lim invite the Chief Minister so as to give Datuk Musa Aman the opportunity to learn and understand the Mazu culture and history in China.
“What we have been emphasising all along is not whether the Mazu statue in Kudat will be set up or not. Our main contention is a matter of principle: why the Mazu building plan was cancelled midway through the construction of the statue?
"The reason given was that the building plan of the Mazu project in Kudat did not get the approval from the Central Board. But, before that, approval from the Central Board was not required.
"Only, after the Mazu issue arose the policy concerned was amended which requires that all building plans must get approval from the Central Board," he said.
Chin contended that the Central Board does not have adequate manpower to handle the big number of applications.
As a result, it takes the board between six to 12 months to process and approve a building plan application.
"It is sad to say that those who have connections with the powers that be can get the approval for their building plan applications speedily," he said, adding that he had raised the issue on several occasions during the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) meetings, but no concrete action has been taken until today.
"I think many of the developers in Sabah will agree with me that there are double standards in the giving of approval for building plan applications from the Central Board. How are we going to attract foreign investments if we have such a double standard policy?
"The LDP shall continue to raise pertinent issues affecting the State and the people until they are resolved," said Chin.
He lamented that despite the government transformation plan being introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, until today no concrete action has been taken to rectify the problems by the State Goverrment.
"I hope Lim does not use this issue to mislead the people and to cover up the mistakes done. They should face the reality and take the initiative to correct the mistakes done, otherwise they will face the consequences in the next general election," he said.
