Four BN Parties now stake claim for SAPP seat

INANAM: Four Barisan Nasional parties have now indicated interest in contesting the Sepanggar Parliamentary seat now held by the opposition Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP). The latest is the United Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko).

“Upko demands for Sepanggar. That is the resolution approved by the Upko Sepanggar triennial meeting in Kokol, Menggatal last month," said Upko Sepanggar Chief, Datuk Stevent Kutai.

The other Barisan Nasional parties which have also expressed interest in the seat include Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) and Umno.

Kutai said the demand was based on the Barisan Nasional (BN) power sharing concept supported by more than 5,000 Upko Sepanggar members.

"The Upko Sepanggar leadership adhere to the voice of the grassroots in wanting us to represent the Sepanggar seat. We have inform our intention to the party top leadership and we hope it will be agreed to," he said.

On whether the division's intention might create tension among the component parties in the constituency, which have also expressed interest in the seat, he believed the BN is matured enough to handle the matter.

"We are expressing our members wish so does other BN-parties. What is important after the decision is made is that to the component parties would be united to ensure victory,  whoever is the candidate.

"This has been the practice of Upko Sepanggar all this while," said Kutai after the first meeting of the division's new line-up that was also attended by Deputy Chief, Albert Bingkasan, who won uncontested on Saturday.
